“Partnering with Japan’s Murata conglomerate, we not only sell the ‘Muratec’ brand of hardware and software but also offer customized warehousing systems designed by highly-experienced in-house engineers.  Backed by unique expertise, we are confident of securing market leadership,” said Rattikorn Bejarakul, Project Director, Menam Mechanika.

Payback in just six months
Full Automation equipment and software costing USD 2 million was installed at Don Muang’s Warehouse 2 in 1996.  It was fully paid back in six months while the number of workers was reduced from 30 per shift to 2.
The system installed at Warehouse 3 in 2003 enabled Thai Airways International to reduce its clearance time for export/import cargo from 3-7 days to 12-24 hours.  Collaborating closely with Muratec, Menam Mechanika also offers simulation software that enables throughput, line balancing, cost itemizing, breakeven points and other functions to determine investment decisions.

Successful implementation of the Don Muang automation system led to a successful bid for Suvarnabhumi Airport’s USD 10 million warehouse in 2005, along with a Ground Services’ project that includes Preventive Maintenance of spare parts, aircraft trawlers and other ground equipment.  All systems can interface with other software systems including SAP and Orchid.  In 2007, Menam Mechanika won a USD 1 million bid to install a Catering Warehouse automated system for storage and the immediate transfer of equipment and utensils into aircrafts.

Keys to ultimate Automation
Although transportation is the key component of logistic costs, local service providers need to consider internal logistics investments to upgrade operational efficiency, improve customers’ confidence and product portfolio by providing the following Supply Chain Management (SCM) services:
• Distribution Management System (DMS) for picking and identifying orders, transferring money via mobile phones, calculating cargo delivery dates, focusing mainly on direct sales and the beverage industry
• Warehouse Management System (WMS), which includes installation of hardware and ready-made or customized software programs. T his technology is fully compatible with the ERP system
• Factory Automation System (FMS) which operates online and enables automatic utilization of available resources through Sorter system, Palletizing system, and more.

Other products include Transportation Management (TMS) and Order Management System (OMS), which allow customers to minimize the cost of controlling inventories and product distribution by means of an automation system that can interface with customers’ ERP to ensure a quick response, profit maximization, KPI measurements and 24/7 monitoring of work progress to facilitate future planning of production processes.

Machine Makers account for 20% of the existing customer base, and Logistics Suppliers 80%.  Excluding regular customers such as Thai Airways International and a USD 5-million dairy food contract, Menam Mechanika expects to win 2-3 additional projects worth Baht 200-300 million, mainly from direct sales of cosmetics, the distribution of retail goods and hospital supplies.

“Our Design Software is on a par with Murata technology.  As an engineering company that manufactures and installs in-house equipment, we are ready to capture the Thai market.  Because our engineers are familiar with every function of Warehouse Automation, we can solve any problem and errors quickly.  We also guarantee free replacement of faulty equipment and spare parts,” said Rattikorn.

Potential buyers of the Full Automation Warehouse system can also request a report of the total installation cost, breakeven point, automatic calculation of profit and efficiency rate.
