Hapag-Lloyd announced general rate increases effective July 1 for all cargoes and container types for the North Atlantic and Europe-Mexico shipping lanes.

The price increases follow announcements from Maersk Line and OOCL earlier this week of rate hikes on their container shipping networks. Several industry price indices have shown broad declines in spot rates this year until upticks in the past two weeks.

For Hapag-Lloyd, which announced a net financial loss in the first quarter despite a higher profit on operations, rates from all points in the United States and Canada including to North Europe and the Mediterranean will rise $240 for a 20-foot container and $300 for a 40-foot container.

Rates from North Europe and the Mediterranean to all Canada and U.S. points, including cross-border shipments, will rise $240 per TEU and by $300 per FEU.

Rates from Mexico to North Europe and the Mediterranean will increase $200 per TEU and by $250 per FEU.

Similar increases apply to shipments from North Europe and the Mediterranean to all points in Mexico
